elliot adamson knows how good he is, which is equally as daunting as it is impressive. i’ve known him since he was the eager beaver barman at a place i’d play regularly in my hometown, who used to try and stick his demos under my nose, and now he seems poised for world domination with a who s who of the worlds biggest djs singing his praises. i’m so pleased i listened to those demos when i did. elliot has a startling breadth and depth of taste for someone of such tender years (although to be honest, people only mention other peoples youth when they feel like they’re getting old themselves). the ep elliot has provided for me me me covers a range of vibes which can be traced through mid 90s house, millennial techno and that current and contemporary feel that we’re all still struggling to name adequately. elliot is a real talent and i couldn’t be happier to provide a platform for what i feel is his most esoteric work to date, and a worthy showcase of his real capabilities.

udacha just gets better and better with every release, branching out into ever more exciting shapes and styles beyond their house and techno foundations. on this album from indoor plants, wild fourth world visions collide with hardware processes in a dazzling display of transcendental music for those who like their thought-provoking tunes to pack a punch. the likes of -targitaus- deconstruct club music conventions in a quest for new rhythmic purpose, and yet the soundsystem pressure is expertly sculpted out of the daring shape of the music. elsewhere there s surrealism in abundance, as on the wonderfully weird -hunch-, and that s just scratching the surface of this truly essential lp.

frits wentink s bobby donny label returns with a new ep from icelandic producer felix leifur. it s not often someone other than the boss releases on this label so you know this new one is quality indeed. leifurwho also works as david & hjalti and davíð sveinn bjarnason has two solid eps to his name on dirt crew. they show him to be a producer of succulent deep house and atmospheric prone beats. across four cuts here he offers jazzy vibes, organic percussive patterns and authentic styles filled with warmth and soul. opener unidentified blues is a loose jumbled of hi hats and cymbals, rhodes chords and shuffling drums that could well come from the studio of a certain moodymann. they are alive and enriched with real feeling from start to finish. hampton is another tender fusion of deep kick drums, tape echo and curious melodies all tied together by jostling groove that is beautifully incidental and unhurried. contact then brings more proper jazz drums to the table, with distant sax sounds and closely miced hits and spaces of cymbal all feeling loose and free as they suck you into their world. last of all, universal rim picks up the pace with a more rooted house groove, freeform percussion and wooden hits and trilling, echo drenched melodies all making for an intoxicating cut

there are not many conventional rules in the world of dutch dj/producer dj marcelle/another nice mess, or they have to be her own, but which she is more than happy to break at any time she fancies. for the past 15 years she has been travelling around europe and beyond, playing her brave three turntable sets in front of often both stunned, surprised and euphoric audiences. she is an original, skilled mixer, with a very distinctive style of her own, avoiding most dj-cliches and stale rules.

we follow up our debut release by stl with a dancefloor oriented ep by scotsman cain. for those new to cain, a regular on highlife records (a sub-label of huntleys & palmers), you have been missing out. he’s known for fusing his love of traditional music from around the world with infectiously rhythmic drum pattern writing, stand-out melodies and futuristic bass work. and this release is no different. seeing as we are a record label based in the middle east, cain jumped on the opportunity to dig for arabic influenced drums and rhythms to build the ep around. the results are dope! and just in time for the summer season.

sex. sorrow. synthesizers. digital romance are a french duo cast in the mould of vintage electro pop. their sound echoes those halcyon days but is firmly set with an eye on the future. vocals, from marie de berlin, are deep, inviting and rich. tracks tell of lost loves, forlorn figures hoping to find solace in the cold and calculated world we inhabit. sparkling synthwork, care of forgotten illusions, perfectly matches those breathy lyrics, catchy hooks ensnaring hearts and minds as they spiral through the dancefloor of their lives.

dystopian dreams are often used by our minds to try out new, scary scenarios. they are the perfect playgrounds because they combine elements of our real world with speculative elements that do not exist in real life. viers gets to work on his own visions of dystopia, with this menacing 12” tripped with hidden spooks and monster pummel lines.
